I have a law and graduate law degree
(Taxation) from New York University School of Law, an M.B.A.
(finance) from New York University Stern School of Business, and
a B.S. degree (accounting) from Fordham University. I am
admitted to practice in New York and in Illinois. I am also
admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, and in the
Federal District Courts: Southern and Eastern Districts of New
York, and the Northern District of Illinois.
I am a member of the Hispanic Bar Association, the Puerto
Rican Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Cook
County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. I am
also a member of the Illinois CPA Society and the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
PROFESSIONAL PHILOSOPHY. I have been practicing law
for over 20 years. My approach to practicing law is to be
innovative, to think outside of the box, in order to fulfill my
clients' needs. I also believe in providing efficient and
thorough counsel.
In addition to being an attorney, I am also a certified
public accountant (CPA) in the state of Maryland and a real
estate broker in the state of Illinois. I also speak fluent
Spanish and have a working knowledge of Italian.
I decided to start my own practice, after twenty years of
experience at two Fortune 500 companies, because I wanted to
branch out into different areas of law and to do more one-on-one
basis work with clients.
CIVIC INVOLVEMENT. Being an attorney is only part of
who I am. I am also dedicated to my community. For this reason,
I am on the board of Streetwise (www.streetwise.org), an
organization dedicated to empowering the homeless to becoming
self-sufficient and productive members of society.
I am also an active member of the Chicago Bar Association.
Specifically, I am Chair of Chicago Bar Association's Foreign
and International Law Committee and have previously also been
the Vice-Chair for this Committee.
PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY. And I believe in encouraging the
next generation to strive for higher and higher goals and to
better themselves. This is why I have been a professor at
Governors' State University, teaching both undergraduate and
graduate students tax and corporate law. I have also taught
taxation at IIT Chicago Kent College of Law.
I have two sons: Evan, who attends and plays football for
Brown University in Providence, R.I.; and Grant who attends and
plays basketball for Illinois Math and Science Academy in
Aurora, Illinois. For fun, I dance Argentine Tango and Salsa; I
golf; and I like to travel.
